Vinyasa yoga is a form of yoga that links asanas (the physical Hatha practice) with movements that are initiated with breath and continuously supported with the breath. It originated in America where students became tired of practicing the strict Ashtanga sequence and wanted to try something different. They began practicing yoga to music and linking different postures together through movement and so Vinyasa Yoga was born.
Vinyasa classes offer a huge variety of postures and no two classes are ever the same. That’s what makes Vinyasa Yoga so exciting to practice. The variable nature of Vinyasa Yoga helps to develop a more balanced body as well as prevent repetitive motion injuries that can happen if you are always doing the same thing every day. As a philosophy, Vinyasa recognises the temporary nature of moments in life. We enter into a posture, are there for a short while and then leave, moving onto the next posture.
In our Vinyasa Yoga classes you can expect some pranayama (breath work) to help us ground at the start of the practice, followed by a diverse warm up and a challenging dynamic standing sequence, lastly a calming cool down followed by a relaxation.
This class is recommended for people with a regular yoga practice or people who would be physically active. Many different options are given during the class along with adjustments to make poses more accessible and the overall practice more enjoyable.
