Fertility Reflexology

Infertility may be defined as the diminished or absent ability to conceive and bear offspring. A couple is considered to be experiencing infertility if conception has not occurred after 12 months (length of time varies from place to place) of sexual activity without the use of contraception. At this point a couple may be guided towards clinical assessment and medical investigation to determine if there is any underlying pathology in either the male or the female. This investigation may then lead to appropriate medical intervention to assist conception.

According to statistics one third of all cases of failure to conceive are due to unknown causes. In instances such as these the reason can sometimes be due to the stress and tension of everyday life and/or the anxiety associated with trying to conceive. The adage ‘you can’t get pregnant unless you relax and you can’t relax because you can’t get pregnant’ often becomes a reality for many women.

The stress and anxiety associated with the failure to conceive can be overwhelming. When the body is under stress it produces epinephrine and cortisol which are often referred to as the ‘stress hormones’. The endocrine system works in conjunction with the nervous system to maintain peak bodily function by regulating the levels of hormones in the body. If the endocrine system is not functioning correctly the body’s ability to maintain an adequate hormonal balance may be seriously undermined and as a result the capacity to reproduce may be impaired.

Reflexology can help on a physical, mental and emotional level. Reflexology treatment in general can help promote relaxation, decrease anxiety and assist in creating a positive outlook. Fertility Reflexology can also help to balance the endocrine system and so help improve the functioning of the reproductive system.

Regular reflexology treatments can help restore physical and emotional harmony. This in turn can often impact positively on the process of natural conception. Such a state of wellbeing can also aid in building up the physical body and preparing the mind for medically assisted fertility procedures if they are desired.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy. Holistic therapies are concerned with the treatment of the whole person rather than the treatment of any one specific illness or malady. As such it is interactive and takes into consideration the emotional, mental, social and physical well-being of the individual.

The treatment works towards bringing the body into a state of balance, encouraging all the body’s systems to work to their optimum.

Can Reflexology help me to conceive?

Reflexology cannot guarantee a pregnancy; it can, however, create a healthier environment for a possible pregnancy to occur by encouraging the body to work more efficiently.
Fertility Reflexology can help promote a deep sense of relaxation and can be very effective in relieving stress which is important when trying to prepare the body for conception.
There is no doubt that reflexology can be an extremely relaxing experience and may help reduce stress which is often a key concern for people with fertility issues.

Note:

In addition to my more general Reflexology training I have undertaken training relating particularly to the subject of fertility. I use a number of subtle techniques which are aimed specifically at boosting the endocrine system helping to balance hormonal levels. I also use breathing techniques and guided relaxation techniques to help induce relaxation and alleviate stress.

Infertility Reflexology is a completely natural and non-invasive treatment which stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms and helps promote health and well-being.
